Blog Hacked and Unusable

hackerToday the Blog was off line for several hours due to another nasty hacking attempt.

The WordPress platform has now been reinstalled, together with a backup from a few days ago.

The posts are all clean of the SQL insertions and the blogs security has been tightened up somewhat. Lets hope these hacker slime-balls now stay away and keep our users free of adds for drugs and other stuff.

Input Youth Blog is now live again

The blog has been unavailable for a couple of days because of a WordPress table corruption. The table affected was the blog ‘posts’ so they all disappeared from view.

I worked on the Input site last Friday and only got back to it today to find all the posts had disappeared.

Thankfully I use DB Cron Backup plug-in and this had a good copy of all the ‘post’ table entries, but the SQL file was so large that phpMyAdmin could not upload it.

I therefore tracked down BigDump, a staggered MySQL dump importer, which once properly configured worked a treat.

The result is that the blog is now fully operational again!

Input Youth is now running on multiple devices

More and more Smartphones and a few Tablets are now being used to visit web sites and at Input Youth we have thousands of these devices trying to access our pages. Last month alone, we had over 1,600 Smartphone users trying to use the site.

To make the Input Youth site more accessible, I have recently amended the CSS styles and some page layouts so that 99% of the site now displays across these vastly different devices.

If you now visit the site using a Smartphone, a Tablet device or a modern Internet Browser, like Firefox, Google Chrome or Safari, you will see a display suitable for your particular device.

I hope these changes make for a far better surfing expereience for everyone who visits Input Youth.

Moving Input Youth to a new web host

The move to a new web hosting company was to accomplish three main objectives.

These were:

  • To lower the yearly hosting cost by at least £30.
  • To swap from a Windows to a Linux server.
  • And to find 1st class customer and technical support by reading independent reviews.

PCPro-Fast2host-highlyCommended1After much deliberation I finally decided to try one of the hosts recommended by PC Pro in their Reliability & Service Awards of 2009 – Fast2host.com.

Fast2Host is a British company focused on providing web hosting with top support. And it shows in its results, with 95.8% of its customers happy to recommend Fast2Host to friends and colleagues.

The Input Youth account with Fast2Host was set up on Friday 2 October 2009. I selected the Linux Enterprise package which has 100 sub domains, 50 email accounts and a LAMP configuration (Linux, Apache,MySql and PHP). The whole set up can be managed using CPanel V11.

Changing the TAG

The TAG change from the old host to Fast2Host was completed on Saturday evening and the whole site was uploaded and working by Sunday 4th October. A pretty stella performance! There were no hitches along the way even though the Input Youth site has a WordPress blog and several film shows to slightly complicate matters.

My Final Thoughts

This superb hosting company have been trading since 1999 and seem to go over and above what other hosting companies typically do for their clients. Their service and support are exceptional, which is borne out by the many positive reviews that litter the Internet.

So far we I am extremely happy with Fast2Host. The Input Youth website has experienced no downtime and even loads a bit faster than it used to.

Fast2host are a superb web hosting company who offer loads of useful features as standard. Other hosting companies may well charge extra for these goodies.
So, if you are looking for a good quality hosting solution providing the latest technology at the best possible price, look no further than Fast2hosts.

The newly styled Input Youth Blog

Although this new style blog is a work in progress we do hope you like the new integrated look that relects the overall design of the main web site.

Expect to see a few improvements as the blog is tweaked a bit more!

Search for Jobs by UK Location

Hi all,

There are a lot of new job guides that have been added to Input Youth over the past month or so, and there are far too many to list in this short post.

However another great addition to the site is a brand new job vacancy search box. This can be found at the top of the job guides index page.

By using this job vacancy search box you can now quickly check for job availability based on a specific job title and location.
